Growing up in Western Michigan, Ruth became an Oregonian after attending the University of Oregon and earning a MMus degree. Needing money and establishing a career, Ruth first fell in love with the Oregon Coast at Waldport and Yachats schools (K-5).  After a year and a half, she came to Gold Beach where she taught K-8 music for twenty years and substituted for twelve years.  Finding a purpose to serve since retirement, Ruth became a member of Curry General Hospital Auxiliary in 2003, serving as President since 2014 and being an ex-officio member and liaison to the Foundation.
